NINERS BEAT COWBOYS TO HIGHLIGHT IN WEEK 12


   The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Dallas Cowboys today to highlight
   Week 12 of the National Football League.
   
   Steve Young threw second-half touchdown passes to Jerry Rice and Brent
   Jones as the 49ers knocked off the Cowboys, 21-14, in a rematch of the
   last two NFC Championship games.
   
   The 49ers won their fifth straight, snapped a five-game Dallas winning
   streak and matched the Cowboys for the best record in the NFC AT 8-2.
   The Cowboys defeated San Francisco the past two seasons on their way
   to Super Bowl championships, and also beat the 49ers during the 1993
   regular season.
   
   Rice and Young hooked up for a 57-yard touchdown with 2:40 left in the
   third quarter to give the 49ers a 14-7 lead. Jones' 13-yard scoring
   pass from Young capped an 87-yard drive and put San Francisco ahead
   21-7 with 2:32 left in the game.
   
   The Cowboys pulled within 21-14 on Emmitt Smith's second touchdown, a
   two-yard run with 1:20 left. San Francisco recovered the ensuing
   onside kickoff and ran out the clock.
   
   Young completed 12 of 21 passes for 183 yards and no interceptions.
   Rice caught five passes for 93 yards.
   
   Aikman completed 23 of 42 for 339 yards, but was intercepted three
   times.
