Aikman Sidelined In Arizona --- October 23, 1994

Dallas lost Troy Aikman to a concussion early Sunday at Arizona,
San Diego lost for the first time after Stan Humphries went down
against Denver, and three quarterbacks were sidelined in Cleveland.
Aikman was sidelined with a concussion and chin and tongue
lacerations that required stitches he received on his team's first
possession.
He was rolling to his left when Arizona defensive tackle Michael
Bankston cut off his running room at the Cardinals' 10. Bankston
and Wilber Marshall crashed into Aikman simultaneously, with
Marshall's helmet causing the damage to the quarterback's face.
Aikman, who was replaced by Rodney Peete, walked to the locker
room under his own power after watching Peete hit Michael Irvin for
a 5-yard touchdown.
Cowboys coach Barry Switzer said he expects his starting
quarterback to be available for this Sunday's game against
Cincinnati at Riverfront Stadium.
Humphries, the most surprising star in the Chargers' 6-0 start,
sustained a sprained left ankle when Broncos defensive end Simon
Fletcher pushed right tackle Stan Brock into him with 1:43 left.
With San Diego trailing 20-15, the Chargers had driven to the
Broncos' 45 when Humphries was hurt. Backup Gale Gilbert came on
and completed a 14-yard pass to Harmon, then threw four straight
incomplete passes.
Humphries said he expects to play next week against Seattle.
The Browns, who beat the winless Bengals 37-13, lost Vinny
Testaverde early in the third quarter. He complained of headaches
and blurred vision, the result of being hit hard on the Browns'
opening possession of the half.
Mark Rypien, the former Super Bowl MVP signed last spring to
back up Testaverde, finished for Cleveland.
The Bengals' quarterbacks also took a beating in the second
half. David Klingler sprained his knee, and backup Don Hollas
injured his shoulder. That left third-stringer Jeff Blake to finish
the game.
Browns rookie cornerback Antonio Langham was strapped to a
stretcher and carried off after colliding with teammate Eric Turner
with about four minutes to go. Langham had full movement but
complained of pain in his neck.
The Cowboys lost another offensive starter late in the first
half as left tackle Nate Newton injured his right ankle with about
a minute to play.
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Chris Miller sustained a concussion
against New Orleans, and Saints wide receiver Steve Rhem broke his
ankle.
