Dallas vs Detroit Preview --- September 19, 1994

DETROIT LIONS (1-1) at DALLAS COWBOYS (2-0)

When: 6 p.m. Monday.

Television: ABC.

Line: Dallas by 13.

GAME PLAN: Cowboys receive somewhat of a break playing Detroit on Monday
night after spending the previous week preparing for Houston's
Run-and-Shoot
offense. Look for the Cowboys to play only one extra defensive back when
the
Lions line up with three receivers, and go to their nickel when Detroit
goes
to four wideouts. And the Cowboys, with third receiver Kevin Williams out
with a sprained knee, likely will remain in their standard two wide
receiver
offense in third-down situations.

KEY MATCHUPS: Lions: Interior line of center Kevin Glover and guards Shawn
Bouwens and Doug Widell vs. Dallas tackles Russell Maryland and Leon Lett.
Cowboys: Front four vs. RB Barry Sanders; SS Darren Woodson vs. WR Brett
Perriman; LT Mark Tuinei vs. ROLB Pat Swilling.

OFF/DEF RANKINGS: Lions: offense 22nd (18th rush, 21st pass); defense 14th
(13th rush, 15th pass). Cowboys: offense 8th (2nd rush, 16th pass);
defense
2nd (11th rush, 2nd pass).

FAST FACTS: Lions: Have only been on Monday Night Football four times in
the
last 10 years and have lost each time. Cowboys: Rookie free-agent kicker
Chris Boniol has not missed an NFL field goal, currently six-for-six.

MONDAY NIGHT GAME

Dallas (2-0) vs. Detroit (1-1)

Key Stat: Defensive end Charles Haley leads the NFL with 5.5 sacks and the
Cowboys lead the NFL with 14 sacks.

Comment: In four of the last five games the winning team in this series
has
scored 30 points or more. The Cowboys are capable of putting up those
kinds
of points, but it's questionable for Detroit. Lions running back Barry
Sanders hasn't gotten out of the chute like his Cowboy counterpart, Emmitt
Smith. And without Sanders chewing up turf it's going to be difficult for
Detroit to threaten Dallas.

Game Score: Dallas 31-21.
