The Dallas Cowboys were awarded two compensatory picks in the NFL Draft next month, both in the 6th round.
The NFL awarded the Cowboys those two selections based on the loss of cornerback Mario Edwards and defensive end Ebenezer Ekuban.
Edwards signed last year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for an average of $2.78 million per year as a nickel cornerback, but lost his job during the 2004 season. Ekuban signed a three-year deal with the Cleveland Browns. He played in all 16 games last year, but started only 11.
And you want to know how bad the acquisition of Marcellus Wiley was for the Cowboys? The league did not feel that Wiley and Ekuban offset each other as a net loss of a free agent.
Dallas now has the following picks in the upcoming NFL Draft:
1st 2 (#11, #20 from Buffalo)
2nd 1 (#10)
3rd 0 (#9 to Houston for Drew Henson)
4th 1 (#8)
5th 1 (#12)
6th 2 (#11 to Oakland for Kenyon Coleman, #34 and #35 compensatory)
