Former Cowboys president and general manager Tex Schramm will be the next inductee into the Ring of Honor at Texas Stadium.
Schramm, already a member of the NFL Hall of Fame, will be the 12th member of the Ring of Honor. The last member, Bob Hayes, was inducted in 2001. Hayes died last year of kidney failure.
Schramm joined the Cowboys in 1959, hired Tom Landry to coach the Cowboys and was instrumental in putting together one of the most storied franchises in sports history. The Cowboys hold the NFL record with 20 consecutive winnings seasons. They made five trips to the Super Bowl, winning two of them.
Schramm was also involved in creating the National Football League by merging the AFL and NFL in 1966. He also helped in bringing football to the television audience and worked on negotiating the collective bargaining agreement.
A less conspicuous nuance was his idea for the Cowboys to wear their white jerseys for home games when the rest of the league wore their dark home jerseys.
Other ideas included the creation of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders in 1971, the first for any NFL team, and the inception of The Dallas Cowboys Weekly, which rose to international circulation.
