The new man at the helm of the Dallas Cowboys moved quickly to set his team coordinators, retaining Mike Zimmer as the defensive coordinator and hiring Maurice Carthon as the Cowboys’ new offensive coordinator.
Zimmer took over the defensive coordinator position three years ago when Dave Campo was elevated to head coach. He kept the Cowboys’ defense at 13th in fewest points allowed by keeping teams to 17 points or less in seven games this past season.
Carthon was the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions last season after joining the team in 2001 as the running backs coach.
As a fullback, Carthon played six years under Parcells when he coached the New York Giants. He began his coaching career in New England in 1994 as an offensive assistant to Parcells. Using his experience as a player in the NFL, he shifted to coaching running backs the following year. In 1997, Parcells brought Carthon with him when he went to the Jets, where he held positions as assistant head coach and running backs coach.
